Course Description

This introductory course will cover the fundamentals of American Sign Language over a 10-week period. Focus will be placed on developing expressive and receptive skills and learning basic vocabulary and grammatical structures. Topics covered include:

  1. The manual alphabet
  2. Sign articulation and smooth transitioning
  3. Common words and phrases for conversation

Learner Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will be able to,

  1. Sign the manual alphabet
  2. Introduce themselves
  3. Begin a conversation with common phrases
  4. Ask a question in a conversation
