Has your museum jumped into the digital world with both feet but no strategy? Are you suddenly in charge of online content, but need to rally others around an organizational and systemic approach? Do you need a strategy and a tactical plan? This course will enable you to think about the approach and impact of a digital strategy at the enterprise level. You will have the opportunity to benchmark your museum’s actual level of preparedness with what’s needed in the near and more distant future using an established assessment tool. This course will set you on the path to developing an organization-wide strategy for digital engagement, guidance on the tools and resources that are required to deliver that strategy, and advice and tips to rally your leadership team around common understandings, purpose and tasks.
During the two-week boot camp, you will work with leaders of museums from across the country in individual study, group work, and ten hours of synchronous coursework. You will be guided to effectively analyze your current situation, collaborate with others in a similar position to develop ideas, and develop a digital strategy that will receive individualized feedback and suggestions from an expert in the field. You will leave this boot camp with clarity on the appropriate next steps for your museum, a vision for the future, and the ability to communicate how your institution must work collaboratively and effectively to deliver on the strategy you develop.
In order to achieve the maximum benefit from the course, participants will be asked to complete a pre-assessment, reading, and project selection prior to the class date.
The course will be offered fully online, with asynchronous activities that participants can complete prior to class, which will be a mix of face-to-face instruction and activities via Zoom and follow-up asynchronous tasks to implement new learning. Therefore, internet access and a device capable of video calling will be required for all of the classes.
