Course Description
Mentoring for Educational Leaders will provide research-based strategies to help increase the use of effective mentoring by building and division level leaders in K-12 schools to support teachers and staff. This course will focus on how to work with adult learners, how to give feedback that will be received and incorporated, and how to use data to guide continuous improvement.Course Outline
Mentoring for Educational Leaders will provide research-based strategies to help increase the use of effective mentoring by building and division level leaders in K-12 schools to support teachers and staff. This course will focus on how to work with adult learners, how to give feedback that will be received and incorporated, and how to use data to guide continuous improvement.
Course Objective: To enhance the mentoring capabilities of k-12 leaders through research-based strategies in mentoring including the use of data in the observation/feedback cycle
Learner Outcomes
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Understand the current context of reflective mentoring in teacher education and teacher induction
- Describe the practice of reflective mentoring to include culturally relevant, antiracist, and trauma-informed principles
- Identify the attributes of highly effective mentors
- Determine communication styles, challenges, and guidelines for reflective mentors
- Identify frameworks for observing new and veteran teachers
- Implement specific guidelines and protocols to provide effective feedback to teacher candidates and new teachers
- Identify strategies for navigating difficult conversations with mentees
